Rio de Janeiro Carnival – 5th March

posted in: Events | 129

The Rio Carnival begins every year, 46 days before Easter. In the old days, carnival time meant that no meat would be eaten during this period, thus the word carnival sounds similar to the brazilian word carnelevare. I have been to Rio on a shopping trip with friends but never during this time. I don’t think we have ever experienced anything like this in South Africa and I am sure it would be a once in a lifetime party!

Oh my gosh the costumes are out of this world! Verging on kitch, so outrageously OTT and carnival vibe! Each Brazilian wearing the costume looks like a goddess – mesmerizing. I wish we could do something like this in Long Street – Cape Town would be perfect for this……………………..
