Je ne sais quoi. I have suddenly gone all crazy for Jane Birkin. Known for her hair style with a bang all the time, skinny frame and always carrying a basket, even at night in the clubs. Her style was classic mixed with a bit of edginess, but just enough to make it look ever so French chic. I don’t think I have even seen a lady looking so genuinely sexy in a pair of jeans.
I can see why she was Gainsourg’s muse – apparently he wrote several of her albums in her singing career. Did you know hermes’ named and designed a handbag for her in 1984, the Birkin Bag.
On an Air France flight from Paris to London, Jane Birkin pulled her Hermes datebook out of her bag and all her papers fell on the floor. She complained to the passenger sitting next to her that the book should have pockets. That passenger was the chairman of Hermes, Jean-Louis Dumas, and after hearing her complaint he created the Birkin bag.
What a fab story – Lets all be Birkin fashionistas this week. I am going to try stockings, denim shorts, kitten heel pumps and a big basket – ha ha.
