When you google Donyale Luna the first words that spread accross the screen are’ first notable African American fashion mode’l and the ‘first black cover girl’….! To some she was much much more – a life too short but what a stamp Donyale Luna left on the world! Tall, skinny as ever and brilliantly original and beautiful!
She was described by some in her early years as being weird and living in a constant dream world – I like that!
Her career started with a sketch of her on the cover of Harpers Bazaar in 1965. She also became the first African American model to appear on the British Vogue in March 1966!
She was lucky enough to star in several movies produced by Andy Warhol – one of her roles being Snow White – like I said, original, not boring and standing out – that’s cool! I find her incredible! I would love to have a big black and white poster of her in my house!
Inspiration for the week – stand out if you can and don’t be normal!
