Haute Couture is dressmaking at the highest level and intensity. It is skilled passionate craftsmanship of fabric and tailoring and is very exclusive. Is it a dying trade in this modern day? Some say yes. With the world getting smaller and the population getting bigger, mass production of everything is inevitable – including the rag trade. However, Haute couture is something that should be protected and carried on from generation to generation.
It is perfection, thus the high prices that go hand-in-hand with Haute Couture. I would love to spend time taking a piece of fabric, draping it around a mannequin with pins and seeing how it turns out! Fascinating, is what it is!
When Alexander McQueen’s died, a part of haute couture magic died with him! How many of the greats are left?? Valentino is no longer the head of Valentino, but we all know, looking at the latest Paris fashion week, he was definitely (and secretly) lending a helping hand in designing some of the dresses that were coming down the catwalk! Karl Lagerfeld, John Galliano, Vivienne Westwood are but a handful of these specialists in making luxurious high fashion garments!
To Quote Alexander mcQueen, “British fashion is self confident and fearless. It refuses to bow to commerce, thus generating a constant flow of new ideas whilst drawing in British heritage.”
