So the big day is almost here. That’s right, girls – the annual ritual of running around Cape Town to find the perfect blue and white dress is upon us! The Theme this year at the L’Ormarins Queens Plate is “Timeless Elegance” and as I have been chosen to be one of the judges for Best Dressed of the day, I will be looking for an outfit that emulates exactly that – something that is timeless and elegant!
To provide you with some inspiration I have chosen My Fair Lady for the Girls – the famous scene of the movie when Eliza Doolittle (Audrey Hepburn) is at the races looking absolutely dashing and screams at the top her lungs – “Come on, Dover! Come on, Dover! Move your bloomin’ arse!” In the movie on this fine day at the races, all the ladies are using beautiful umbrellas and my understanding is that beautiful Chinese inspired umbrellas will be available on the day of the Queens Plate!
For the men, The Talented Mr. Ripley and for the most part the character played by Jude Law (Dickie Greenleaf) could be used for inspiration! “Ripley the psychopath meets Greenleaf the narcissist” who happens to be one the most fashionable and most stylish narcissists you will ever meet! Guys, it’s all about white slacks, golf shirts, striped shirts and white loafers! Stunning!
Getting back to the part about running around at the last minute trying to find a dress – look no further than the legendry most talked about boutique, Only One! The fabulous store launched a few months ago on Loop Street – housed within The House of Fashion and owned by Nicole Morris. You can see a story I did on the launch here. Every time I go in there I am torn between hundreds of different dresses and each one has my name on it! What’s even more perfect is they have a huge couch for your loved (bored?) one to sit down and scroll through their iPhone with a cup of coffee whilst you make your choice! I chose a very classic elegant dress for the day which I am going to team up with a pair of leather sandals and White Miu Miu shades from Sunglass Hut!
A word of advise for the girls – try and wear flats so you can dance the night away to Zebra and Giraffe! For the boys – stay cool so there are not to many sweat patches showing through those baby blue coloured shirts 😉
